Hi. We have various shops selling in different currencies. We want to start getting our USA shop which sells in USD to pay the proceeds to our Wise USD account (so we can pay our USD costs direct). Our shop currently has New Zealand as the country. We’ll need to change to USA by the looks of it. Any issues from others who have done this?
Hey @GilesP
When changing the country setting in your Shopify store from New Zealand to the USA, there are a few considerations and potential issues to keep in mind. Here are some points to consider:
-
Currency settings: Changing the country may affect your currency settings. Make sure to update your store’s currency to USD since your USA shop sells in USD. This ensures that all transactions and reports reflect the correct currency.
-
Payment gateway compatibility: Check if your existing payment gateway supports USD transactions. Some payment gateways may have specific requirements or restrictions based on the country or currency. Verify that your payment gateway can process USD transactions smoothly in the USA.
-
Tax settings: The tax regulations and requirements differ between countries. When switching your store’s country, review and update your tax settings accordingly. Ensure that you configure the appropriate tax rates and rules for your USA shop.
-
Shipping and fulfillment: If you offer shipping or fulfillment services, ensure that your settings and configurations align with the new country. Update your shipping zones, rates, and carrier integrations to reflect the requirements of the USA.
-
Legal and compliance considerations: Different countries have distinct legal and compliance requirements. Familiarize yourself with the regulations and obligations specific to the USA. For example, review consumer protection laws, privacy policies, terms and conditions, and any other legal aspects to ensure compliance.
-
Domain and URL implications: Changing the country setting might impact your store’s domain or URL structure. If you have a country-specific domain (e.g., .us), you may need to update it to reflect the new country setting. Consider the SEO implications and plan accordingly to maintain your store’s visibility.
-
Payment disbursements: To have your proceeds paid to your Wise USD account, you’ll need to ensure that your chosen payment gateway supports payouts to Wise. Check with your payment gateway or Wise directly to confirm compatibility and set up the necessary configurations.
It’s important to thoroughly review and test all changes after adjusting your country settings. Consider conducting a comprehensive check of your store’s functionality, payment processing, shipping, taxes, and other critical areas to ensure a smooth transition.
