Google Analytics 4 (GA4): Discrepancy Between Item ID

Hello Shopify Community,

I hope this message finds you well. I am currently facing an issue with Google Analytics 4 (GA4) integration on my Shopify store, and I’m hoping to get some guidance or insights from the community.

Problem Description:
I’ve noticed that the Item ID tracking in Google Analytics 4 does not match consistently. Specifically, when tracking product-related data, the Item ID seems to measure either the item view or the purchase value but not both simultaneously.

Details:

  1. When a user views a product, the Item ID is recorded accurately, but the purchase value is not attributed correctly.

  2. Conversely, when a purchase is made, the Item ID appears to reflect the purchase value, but it does not capture the item view accurately.

I would like to have a consistent and accurate tracking system that records both item views and purchase values correctly in Google Analytics 4.

What I’ve Tried:
I’ve already reviewed my Shopify settings, including the Google Analytics integration, and everything seems to be correctly set up. I’ve also checked the implementation of the GA4 tracking code, and it appears to be in order.

Request for Assistance:
I’m reaching out to the Shopify community to see if anyone has encountered a similar issue and found a solution or if there are any best practices or tips for ensuring that the Item ID in GA4 accurately reflects both item views and purchase values.

If you have any insights, recommendations, or experiences to share regarding this problem, please feel free to respond to this post. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help, and I look forward to your valuable input.

Best regards,
Max
