Google Merchant Center suspension due to "checkout availability mismatch"

Topic summary

Main issue: Google Merchant Center warned of a suspension for “checkout availability mismatch,” meaning products appear purchasable nationwide in the feed but checkout blocks some Spanish regions (e.g., Canary Islands) due to high costs/duties.

Platform constraints: Shopify’s native Merchant Center integration doesn’t let the merchant exclude regions in Spain. Google’s guidance offered two options: ship to 100% of regions (including overseas) or accept suspension. Google also mentioned using the excluded_destination attribute (to mark where ads shouldn’t show), but the merchant lacks technical resources to manage a custom feed.

Proposed workaround: A respondent suggests using a third‑party shipping carrier restricted to specific ZIP codes and configuring a shipping rate for Spain in Merchant Center. With carrier‑based shipping in Shopify, customers can verify delivery availability; the respondent indicates this setup would allow advertising.

Status: No confirmed resolution. Key open question: how to accurately reflect regional delivery restrictions in Merchant Center without manual feed customization, and whether carrier‑based rates alone resolve the policy mismatch.

Hi, we currently have a Google warning that our account will be suspended due to “Checkout availability mismatch”. In our product feed all products are available in the whole country (Spain). However, we cannot ship to all regions, so users that try to get our products shipped to one of those regions , they cannot finish the checkout. We have this correctly implemented in Shopify, but as Shopify and the Merchant Center are automatically integrated through the platform, there is no way for us to exclude those regions from the feed.

We’ve been in touch with Google Shopping support and they basically give us two options:

  1. Shipping to 100% of the regions in Spain, even to the overseas regions, which has no business sense (almost all e-commerces in Spain which are based in the mainland region like ours don’t deliver to the (eg) Canary Islands, due to the huge delivery costs and delivery times + local duties + legal processes) → this is not an option (note: overseas regions represent only 7,68% of the Spanish population in 2022!!).
  2. Accepting we cannot run Shopping ads and having our account suspended because we cannot specify the regions to which we deliver our products in the Merchant Center (this functionality is not available in Spain yet) → this is not an option either!!
They also suggest implementing the [excluded_destination] attribute in the feed, but we are not developers (that’s why we use Shopify as the e-commerce platform) and we don’t have any tech knowledge/resources available to upload a feed manually.

We are running in circles and no one seems to provide a solution  Any help will be very much appreciated!! Thanks!!!

Hi @aurofloral

To ship for particular locations, you can choose to have a third-party shipping carrier who will specifically ship to specific pin codes only.

In the merchant center, define a shipping rate available for Spain and set it up. This will allow you to Advertise on Google. Since you have a carrier-based shipping setup in Shopify, your customer can check the product shipment availability at their location.

Hope this helps.
