In short, I use the Shopify Product Reviews app, and have over 50 reviews - I want a Google star rating for my shopping listing, and have found out that the Shopify product review app does not qualify as a ‘approved aggregator’ - so I need to upload a ‘xml file’ to my Google Merchant centre, containing the review data from Shopify Product Reviews. I have no idea how to do this or what it encompasses. Google have told me they can not help and I must do this myself or ask Shopify, but I wondered if someone here can help please!
Self hosted reviews, will be very hard to get approved, it is best to use a 3rd party approved aggregator, to ensure your reviews you collect will show on your shopping listings.
Hey Lovina, you’re correct. The Shopify Product Reviews app doesn’t qualify as an approved aggregator, so Google won’t pull stars automatically from it.
That’s why Google is telling you to upload a Product Reviews XML feed yourself, and unfortunately Shopify won’t generate that file for you.
Your options are basically:
Export your reviews in CSV format
Turn them into a Google-compliant XML review feed
Upload that feed into Google Merchant Center → Product Reviews
I had the same issue and ended up using a tool called Review2XML that converts Shopify Product Reviews into the exact XML Google expects. Once uploaded, stars started showing after Google processed the feed.
