Google Shopping Ads - are they working? We can't tell!

As a primarily brick and mortar store, Google Shopping Ads have been a bit confusing to us. We have a campaign set up and running, but the performance metrics look really bad. I can’t tell if our conversions are actually this low, or if there’s something wrong with our UTM so that not all conversions are being tracked. Here’s a snapshot of the last 30 days:

As you can see, we’ve spent $850 on Shopping Ads. According to our Shopify Data, our sales attributed to Google for the same period were $3481. I understand that some of that would be through organic search, rather than shopping ads, but based on the metrics provided by Google Shopping, is it really true that our shopping ads only garnered $107 in purchases?

I am willing to hire an expert to help with this. We’re spending a lot of money on Google Shopping Ads and I have NO idea if they’re actually working!

That will be hard to answer just looking at the info you provided.

What I would suggest is that you do some basic checking.

Check if in Google Ads, the conversion tracking is working and the data you see is realistic. Meaning conversion volume and conversion value.

If Google Ads is correct, then you can check if your links have added the correct UTM’s, however by default you don’t need to do anything because Google will automatically add the UTM’s correctly.

Also check if your Google Analytics data is correct.

By checking all these areas, you can resolve the issues step by step until its correct.

Do expect a difference of up to 20%, each platform tracks data a little different.
