Hi everyone, I am getting weird and unusually high traffic (Visitors etc) on my shopify store from other geographical location (USA,Colombia etc) that is not my target market (Singapore). Does this affect my store be it security/speed/Google SEO ranking locally?
Hello Israel_lim, your security and speed is not affected by the geographical location of your visitors. Regarding SEO ranking, user engagement is something that Google and other search engines factor in their ranking algorithms. So, if these users from other locations don’t find relevant content, they don’t engage with your site and their percentage is significantly high, probably over time that can affect your ranking.
Hope this helps,

Hello! Yes, unusual and high traffic from other geographical locations can potentially affect your Shopify store in several ways:
-
Performance and Speed: High traffic from distant locations can put a strain on your server, leading to slower loading times for users in your target market. This could result in a negative user experience, leading to higher bounce rates and lower customer satisfaction.
-
Security: Unusual traffic patterns might be an indication of bot attacks or attempts to exploit vulnerabilities in your store’s security. It’s essential to monitor and protect your store from potential security threats.
-
Google SEO Ranking: If search engines, like Google, detect a significant amount of irrelevant traffic or suspicious activities, it may impact your store’s search engine ranking. This can affect your visibility in local search results for your target market.
-
Analytics Accuracy: High traffic from irrelevant locations can skew your analytics data, making it challenging to accurately measure the performance of your store for your actual target audience.
To address these issues:
- Consider implementing security measures like captcha or firewall to protect your store from potential threats.
- Use a content delivery network (CDN) to improve website loading times for visitors across different geographical locations.
- Check your analytics data and filter out irrelevant traffic to get accurate insights into your actual customer behavior.
- Reach out to Shopify support if you suspect any unusual activity or if the high traffic persists.
By taking appropriate measures, you can ensure your Shopify store performs well, stays secure, and maintains a strong local SEO presence for your target market in Singapore.
