Selling wholesale we need an Add VAT feature and for VAT to be charged or excluded from the total calculation depending on whether the buyer adds the number or not. How do we add this to the checkout cart, without having to install and pay for (yet another) plugin?

I have the same problem… I’m also checking third party apps but it’s also not very clear… I just want this for the checkout cart, I don’t want the prices to be displayed with or without VAT, simply that when the user is going to pay if it’s a company they can use their VAT number to remove the tax. It shouldn’t be that difficult @Shopify_77

I subscribe to this request. We need a simple field in the checkout page to be able to get the VAT number of our B2B Customers. Doesn’t need to do anything else, just to collect that number so we can make the invoice afterwards.

I have the same problem too and I did not find the tax apps available very helpful for that matter. If Shopify can add something for this that would be perfect both for sellers and the customers who wants to benefit from tax deduction.

Hello, is there any solution for collecting customers’ VAT numbers? I have a small business in Portugal, and it’s mandatory to issue an invoice with a VAT number if the customer demands it. Currently, I use the solution of putting the fiscal number in the “Notes” field for the customer. However, this solution doesn’t allow me to migrate to the new customer accounts

Due to varying regulations between countries and states, we’re unable to provide that level of tax advice. However, we have seem some merchants use the Company or Address Line 2 fields for customers to input their VAT numbers. That being said, we’d recommend taking a look at something like Sufio: Professional Invoices for invoicing and you can consult them on the best-practices for this process as well.

I have been looking everywhere for a solution to this and the fact that shopify can’t collect VAT numbers natively is just embarrassing. Even when paying 2000USD/month for B2B you manually have to verify every single company and company profiles needs to be created before placing orders.
So short answer is shopify simply do not support B2B sales in EU.
