Add VAT number to checkout

Hi everyone,

I would like to add an option for VAT number to checkout page, lots of customers have asked for this feature to be added, but have not found a suitable solution yet.

If anything, i would like to add this or an option to check a box for an automated invoice to be made.

Before proceeding more I just want to know which Shopify plan are you using? Based on your Shopify plan I can provide you solution code.

Hi Félix,

We use Latori Tax Exempt Manager, a Shopify app that works perfectly for our shops (steigerbuisstunter.nl and rohr-verbinder.de). It’s affordable, has good customer service, and is easy to install and customise.

Unfortunately, without Shopify Plus it’s not possible to add a VAT number field directly in the checkout, so the field has to be placed in the cart area instead.

I did notice a recent update in Shopify’s backend this week. You can now add a VAT number when editing a customer profile. I haven’t found any official documentation from Shopify about this yet (probably because it’s a brand-new feature). So maybe a native Shopify solution without the need for apps is on the way soon?

This plugin works really well for solving this issue.

That is only for Shopify Plus right? Other plans are not allowed to modify the checkout (with or without apps).

Yes, that’s correct — the EU VAT Number field at checkout is only available to Shopify Plus merchants.
