How can I add SKU data to my product listing at admin level?

I want to add SKU data to the product listing at an admin level. Now at product listing just show product name, status, inventory, type, and vendor. So I want to add SKU. How to do that?

Hey, @wazeer .

This is Elias from Shopify Support. I’d be happy to lend a hand with this!

For individual products, you can add the SKU numbers by going into each product and adding them to the product details. However, if you’re looking to add SKU numbers to multiple products, then you can use the bulk editor - this allows you to edit up to 50 products and its variants per page. After selecting the products and entering the bulk editor, the SKU columns is available by default. For any other product attributes, you can add the product properties to the bulk editor.

Here’s an example of the bulk editor from my test store:

I’d love to know if this is what you’re looking for. Let me know!

Hi @Elias ,

Thanks for the detailed explanation about edit the SKU. My question is to show SKU at a product listing, you go to admin level click Products > All Products. Now at listing just show product title, status, inventory, type, and vendor. So I want add column SKU between product title and status. Can do like that?

Hi, @wazeer .

Thank you for following up!

There isn’t a way to add a SKU column to the All products section in the admin. However, as a workaround, you can view the SKU for your product listings through the bulk editor or by managing inventory. While we recommend using the bulk editor for editing the SKU numbers, the Inventory (ā€˜Products > Inventory’) section is able to display the SKU numbers as well.

With that being said, I can also see how this can be a beneficial feature for our merchants, like yourself, and I’d be happy to share your suggestion with our developers. If Shopify moves forward with any changes or updates, you can find it on our changelog or updates page.

If you have any other questions on this topic, don’t hesitate to let me know!

This is a necessary features with shops with many products like us ( 9000+ products ).
As for the order page, would be nice to be able to customise the columns on the product list.
For us SKU barcode and price are key parameters we need to be able to see when we search products.

At the moment we solved it by creating a Chrome extension that parse all the products ID , make an API request to Shopify and modify the page.
But this solution is far from being perfect:

  • the process is a bit slow
  • every time shopify updates the admin we need to update the parsing
The bulk editor and the inventory view don’t fit our use case, because the inventory still limited to SKU, and it’s by variant, no Product.

The bulk editor doesn’t have a search features, which means we need to search first and then edit, but we actually need extra information to find the right products
Attached an example of how we solved the issue, with SKU , CODE , PRICE and STATUS being injected dynamically by the chrome extension.

I guess this is an absolute necessity to have such an ability in the admin product list. Not only add the SKU, but any other column too, and even product metafields. So, a list customization feature would be a great addition to Shopify functionality.

Having SKU visible on All Products would be very useful, I hope this suggestion is implemented.

Greetings, @dzorin & @Design_Co-Mac .

Thank you both for joining the thread and sharing this feedback!

I understand that being able to add columns for attributes, such as SKUs or meta-fields, on the product list in the admin can be beneficial for our merchants and I’d be happy to submit this feedback as a feature request to our development team. If Shopify moves forward with any changes to the product list in the admin, then we’ll be sure to announce them on the Shopify Changelog.

Though the bulk editor isn’t on the front page of the product list, it does allow you to add columns, such as SKUs and meta descriptions. Did you two get a chance to see if the bulk editor can assist you with your tasks at hand?

Hi Elias,

I’m afraid the Bulk editor isn’t helpful in this regard

Hi Elias,

Thanks for your reply.

Although the bulk editor may become useful in some cases, it is not in other ones. Like, in case of my shop – we have 250+ products, most of them have variants, and some do not. With variants, the SKU comes to the variant level and no longer available on the product level, so that in my case for some products it exists, and for some it does not. Also, you cannot sort and filter your list by SKU or a set of SKUs.

To have a workaround we have created a metafield on the product level with the reference code that is unique for each product, but since it is a custom metafield, it has the same issues with the product list as SKU does.

The other thing is that I would like to hide certain columns that are in the list but that are not needed for my shop’s purposes. For example, in my shop we have one single product type, so having that column in the product list just wastes space.

Hope this response may help to understand the use cases.

Thanks,

Dmitry

Hey, @dzorin .

Thank you for following up and sharing the additional context!

I can see there are some key features, such as being able to sort/filter the product attributes and hiding certain columns, that can be beneficial to improving the bulk editor and I’d be happy to add them as a feature request to our development team. While feature requests isn’t something that I can provide a timeframe on, you can keep an eye on our changelog for any upcoming changes or updates to our platform as previously mentioned.

If you have any other questions on this topic, don’t hesitate to let me know!

Please submit this request. SKU is basic retail management data and must be a column on the product list page.

Hey, @MCOFA .

Thanks for joining the thread and voicing your support for this feature!

I understand that you also use SKUs as part of your store’s basic management data, and I’d be more than happy to add you to this feature request. While I wouldn’t be able to provide an update on feature requests, we will announce any changes or new features on the Shopify Changelog.

If you have any other questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us!

Hi Elias

How can I add a SKU and Product Code in Collections?

Cheers

Dean

Hi Elias,

We have the same issue,
would like to display the barcode and SKU on the product list page.
or add other columns to the order listing page.

The bulk editor is not helpful yet.

Do you have any estimated schedule for this feature update?

Hi, @Lin_RelationsJP .

Thank you for joining the thread.

I understand that you’re also looking to have the barcode and SKU on the product list in the admin, and I’d be happy to add you to this feature request. However, while feature requests can help our developers prioritize the development of new features, we’re unable to provide an estimated schedule for when the feature will be added. If Shopify moves forward with new features or changes, then we’ll be sure to announce them on the Shopify Changelog.

If you’ve any other questions on this topic, then don’t hesitate to let me know!

Just joining the thread. With over 6.500 products it is absolutely necessary for us to display a SKU column.

Hi, @Dean28 .

Thanks for joining the thread.

My apologies for the late response as your post was a follow-up on this thread, and it may have been overlooked previously. Just to confirm, are you looking to add the SKU and Product type columns to the Collections of the Shopify admin?

If so, then there isn’t a way to do this at the moment. However, I’d be happy to share your feedback as a feature request with our development team. If Shopify moves forward with any changes to how the collections are managed in the admin, then we’ll be sure to announce them on the Shopify Changelog.

I noticed that you’re a new member of our Shopify Community and I’d love to hear more about your business! What types of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?

Hey, @LePatty .

Thank you for joining the thread and sharing the additional context.

I can see how important it is for you to display a SKU column with 6,500 products (and variants) in the Shopify admin, and I’d be happy to share your feedback as a feature request with our development team. While there isn’t a timeframe that I can share for developing features or making changes to the platform, you can see announcements of new features and platform changes on our Shopify Changelog.

That being said, I’d love to hear more about your business and I’d be happy to share some resources to help you get started.

Yet another company here looking for the SKU in the product list… Coming from other platforms, I’m very surprised this is not implemented. I’m just starting to put together a site on this platform so I’m using the Inventory list to navigate products by SKU, but I’m wondering when I’ll find an issue with that method. It would be nice to just view the overall product listings by SKU, instead of perusing an even longer list of all SKU’s in the inventory. A customizable column sort would be a nice touch, but a static SKU column at the very least seems like a no brainer.

One other area that seems to be affected by this missing feature is the App market. I’ve found a good product options editor that should do what I need for complicated products, but it also does not have a way to search by SKU, likely because it’s searching from the product category list that doesn’t show SKU… So this is a hurdle because I can’t easily find the right product to edit options, because I have many product lines that all have the same product name but with different SKU’s, that then go into different product categories for vehicle fitment. So, I can’t help but wonder if Shopify had SKU’s on their product list, if it would also help Apps like these with their own functionality…

FYI, the Bulk Edit ā€œworkaroundā€ doesn’t help because I can’t actually click on a product to open and edit it.

I am curious about the Chrome Extension, will look into that.

Is there any way to view progress on feature requests? Or maybe a vote area to help promote likelihood of feature implementation?
