I’m running into an issue where the customer calls in to place order, when placing order I can’t enter discount codes. I have to manually enter the discount code, how can we add the discount codes already created?
Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I’m happy to provide some assistance with setting up discounts for the shop, to get this resolved. To provide some context, customers can be offered various discounts including, a fixed value, percentage, on shipping, products, or collections. You also have the option to create a discount code that can be redeemed at checkout or automatically applied. I recommend checking out our Discounts Documentation for more information on setting this up.
To successfully create a discount code, you can:
Head to the Discounts section of the Shopify admin.
Click Create discount, and then click Discount code.
In the Discount code section, do either of the following:
Enter a name for the new discount code, for example, 15offnecklaces.
Click Generate code.
In the Types section, do either of the following:
Select Percentage, and then enter a percent value in the Value section.
Select Fixed amount, and then enter a monetary value in the Value section.
If you want the discount to apply to specific collections or products, then in the Applies to section, do either of the following:
Select Specific collections, check the appropriate collections, and then click Add.
Select Specific products, check the appropriate products and/or variants, and then click Add.
In the Customer eligibility section, select whether this discount applies to everyone, specific customer segments, or specific customers.
To limit discount usage, in the Usage limits section, do either of the following:
Check Limit number of times this discount can be used in total to set a total number of times that a discount can be used. For example, setting a limit of 200 allows the discount code to be used 200 times across your customer base. If you choose this setting, then customers can use the discount multiple times.
Check Limit to one per customer to limit the discount to one use per customer by tracking a customer’s email address or phone number. This option is only available for fixed value discounts.
In the Active dates section, set the start date for the discount, and then do any of the following:
If you want to set an end date for the discount, then click Set end date and set the date when the discount ends.
If you want the discount to be valid for only one day, then select the same calendar day for both the start date and the end date.
If you don’t want the discount code to expire, then don’t set an end date for your discount.
Click Save discount code.
It’s important to note there are some limitations when creating and using discounts, and recommend checking out Discounts FAQ Page for more information on this. However, if after creating a discount it’s not applying as expected at checkout, please feel free to Contact Support for further investigation.
Please let me know if you have any other concerns.
In the case you’re creating an order on behalf of the customer, you will want to ensure a draft order is used. This will allow for you to apply a discount to the entire order or to a single item. I recommend checking out our Creating Draft Orders documentation for more information on this process. It’s outlines however, you can:
Open the order from the Orders page in your Shopify admin.
Click Add discount.
Set the discount as a currency amount, or a percentage of the total price. This discount is applied on top of any item-specific discounts.
Optional: Enter a reason for the discount in the Reason text box.
Click Apply.
Please let me know if you have any other questions!
For the record, the answer to this question was not solved directly, but implied. So I want to clarify.
In reviewing replies, it appears that there is currently no way to accomplish what MannyP is asking. There is no way to add discount codes (we’re not talking about discounts in general) to draft orders? Is that correct?
