How can I change slideshow photo orientation on the Craft theme?

I’m using the craft theme and want the images in my slideshow to show in a vertical orientation.

I tried setting the image height to “adapt to first photo” but the photos are way too big for the screen. If I set the banner height smaller all of the images get cropped back to a horizontal orientation.

Any insight on how I can resize images / make changes to the theme code to fix this?

The simplest solution is editing your images before uploading them.
