How can I grant website access to someone else while on a trial?

I am creating a website for someone. I created the website under my own email. I understand I’m able to transfer ownership once I am done creating the website. What I don’t understand is that right now I am working off of a trial and she will be needing to pay for the shopify stuff, as well as she needs to log into her old domain to connect her old domain to the shopify account. How can she have access to the website to do these things now??

You can add them as a staff member. See here:

Hope that helps!

Hi, @tyeshaap !

Welcome to Shopify Community. Thank you for your question.

I certainly recommend adding the owner as a staff member for now as described by, @biznazz101 . This will help provide them with access to the store to make the domain connection and also learn the platform.

One issue, however, is that only the Account Owner will have access to the billing details of the store. That means even if you set the owner up with staff access, they will not be able to pay for the store by entering their own payment details. It’s best to discuss this with the owner directly to see if you can make alternate accommodations here.

With that being said, in the future we recommend creating a development store as a Shopify Partner instead. A development store is essentially a free Shopify store (with some limitations) that is built for scenarios where the store needs to be eventually transferred to the owner. This means there is no trial period and that you can even earn a recurring commission from the client’s subscription.

Make sure to learn more about our Partner program for the future.

Warm regards,

Thank you for that information! I had no clue I could do that. I have now developed a Partners login and transferred the store there. To give her the access now to connect the existing domain would I give her Collaborator access or add her as a staff member?

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, @tyeshaap .

I’m so glad you found that information helpful. Collaborator access is typically for partners or experts that need to work on the account, so staff member access should suffice for the Account Owner at this time.

Warm regards,

Hi Olivia!!! could you help me with my problem??? I asked a person to make my shopify store, I gave him the 4 digits for the request, but they requested a OWNERSHIP transfer. Is it normal??? why they need the ownership to create the store? and also, I am afraid as I already introduced all my financial information. (of course there is nothing else in the store, I mean, its not active, no items inside, there is nothing created yet).

thank you!!!

@Stephanie101 ,

Thank you for joining the thread!

While hiring assistance with your shop is perfectly normal, you are not and should not required to transfer ownership to those individuals. We have designed specific accounts for those individuals called ‘collaborators’ where they can access the necessary parts of your shop to work. To learn more about this, I’d encourage you to refer to our Collaborators document as it touches on this further.

To gather a bit more information, could you please share where you hired assistance with your shop? Our official page to hire help can be accessed by heading over to our Shopify Experts. These are our only trusted third-party agencies and freelancers.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Blair!!! thank you for the answer! I hired a professional through Fiverr, thought I sent the code for collaborators, but they requested on that collaboration request the ownership transfer. I just disabled the financial part though I accepted the request. Is it a risk? I couldn’t find the answer before so I was on a rush for my website development  Should I be worried or do anything about it?

I assume Fiverr is a secure place where to hire freelancers and shoplift “experts”.

thank you so much for your help!

Hi Stephanie,

I recommend connecting with our chat support team to help you review the permissions you have provided to your collaborator in this situation. To access our authenticated support, please follow this link: Shopify Help Center. Open the AI chat window and type “contact support” to get started.

Our community team doesn’t have access to merchant accounts so I can’t look into this directly with you.

In regards to Fiverr, it is a third party marketplace for people to source and hire people for different kinds of work. Each user is a freelancer and should be approached as an individual business or service provider. Making sure you have signed agreements in place and a clear understanding of the work they will be doing and what you are paying them is always important.

Shopify does offer merchants access to our Partner Directory, which is where you can find vetted partners and developers to help you work with your store.

Thank you so much for your help! Will contact shopify support asap to make sure everything is same!

Thanks again! :folded_hands:
