I am wondering if there is a way in Shopify to import the metafield info. What I wish to do is export the products, then add a metafield column called Product Subtitle or the like (already defined in my store) to place information that I want for each product. Then, lastly import it and have it populate each of the product pages. I did not see a metafield column in the Shopify import template, but wanted to check here to see if you have a solution. Thanks.
I don’t think it’s possible right now. Even if you export the product data (for which you have metafields set up), you can’t see the column in the exported file. I think you need to use an app for this. If I’m not mistake, app called Matrixify can do it.
Thanks Niki. It being a subscription, I am curious what happens after the import is complete. Why would one need to subscribe anymore? I can see it being useful for a Shopify partner to have for working with clients, but why would a store owner need it repeatedly?
The simplest way to do so would be to manually set up Metafield definition in your store settings, apply values in that Metafields for one of the products, then export all Products with Metafields.
Metafield column is only exported if the Metafield is set for at least one of the exported products, so you should see that in the file.
Set values in it for other products and import your file back in.
There are many use-cases for the app that you can do on an ongoing basis, so that is why the app is a subscription. You can see some examples on our Tutorials page.
But, of course, you are free to use it for just a few imports/exports. If you do not need to continue to use the app after this import, you are free to cancel the subscription by uninstalling the app or switching to the Demo plan.
