Hello to everyone reading that. I have a problem that I can’t quite fix myself or just haven’t though of anything else for now. So the problem is that I need to have good store speed for mobile devices, but as it seems that i have slow speed page because of some links and scripts. So my question is: What can I do to boost the site performance for mobile devices? Since I might have some knowledge in coding, I would also like to go thru some steps first before getting directly to hiring an expert. If you know or have faced that kind of problem, I would be more happy to receive a full guide on how to boost the store speed for mobile devices. Oh, I forgot to mention that I have already compressed the images and added a new clear theme without a leftover codes.

@Burnout ,

You need to work on following points :

  • Theme Upgrade if there is a scope and upgraded theme available
  • Reduce JS Payload.
  • Use Critical CSS .
  • Replace GIFs With Static Images
  • Reduce Large Image Sizes
  • Migrate Tracking Codes To Google Tag Manager
  • Compress Images
  • Limit Third Party JavaScript & Shopify Apps
  • Preload Web Fonts.
  • I would suggest limiting to one and using a standard web font.

By fixing these issues, your website speed score can definitely improve.

Hello @Burnout ,

We are OneExperts from OneCommerce and we’re here to help you out.

There are several ways you can improve the performance of your site for mobile devices. You may want to try:

  • Optimize images: make sure all your images are properly optimized in terms of file size and resolution.
  • Minimize HTTP requests: you can minimize HTTP requests by combining multiple CSS or JavaScript files into one, and by using CSS sprites to reduce the number of image files that need to be loaded.
  • Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN): this is a network that can distribute the load of delivering content to users, it will ensure your site’s resources are delivered from a server that is geographically close to the user, which can greatly improve loading times.
  • Minify HTML, CSS, and Javascript: removing unnecessary whitespace and comments
  • Use a caching plugin: caching can prevent the site from re-loading the same resources every time the user visit the site.
  • Use a mobile-specific theme or template
  • Monitor your site’s performance with tools like Google PageSpeed Insights.

There are several ways to boost the speed performance of a Shopify store on mobile devices. Here are a few tips:

  1. Minimize HTTP requests
Combine multiple CSS and JavaScript files into one to reduce the number of requests made by the browser.
  2. Use a lightweight theme
A theme that is optimized for speed will load faster on mobile devices.
  3. Minimize the use of apps
Too many apps can slow down your site, so only use the ones that are essential for your store.
  4. Use lazy loading
This technique delays the loading of images and videos until they are needed, reducing the amount of data that needs to be loaded initially.
  5. Use AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages)
AMP is a framework that allows web pages to load faster on mobile devices by simplifying the HTML and limiting the use of JavaScript.
  6. Use minification
Minification is the process of removing unnecessary characters, such as whitespace and comments, from your code to make it smaller and faster to download.
  7. Remove unnecessary code
Remove any unnecessary code from your theme and apps that are not being used, this will help to improve the speed of your website.

It is also recommended to regularly check your website’s performance with tools such as Google PageSpeed Insights, GTmetrix, or Lighthouse to identify and resolve any issues.

Hi Burnout,

Your store is already off to a great start because it’s faster then average on Mobile. We can further performance tune your theme and add code based optimizations to your theme code for you, so that it’s as fast as it can be.

The main thing to consider with Mobile is the benchmarking is done on a 2016 Motorola G4 which is an older generation Android device. Due to this the page must be short in length and use plug-ins and apps extremely sparingly.

This requires adding async loading, conditional loading, defining a critical css in-line styles, adding lazy loading to images where applicable, and leveraging browser-level lazy loading and using lazysizes to ensure the store is served in the most performant manner possible.

We have developed proprietary solutions for all aspects for these fields, both from performance and loading time, to design - we cover it all. Please contact us to discuss more and get a quote.
