How can I increase sales on my ecommerce site?

Topic summary

A store owner is struggling to generate sales despite running multiple advertising campaigns and seeking guidance on what to do next.

Key recommendations from the community:

  • Balance paid and organic strategies: Ads alone drain budgets quickly. Complement them with blog content, videos, and SEO efforts that provide long-term value.

  • Optimize conversion rate (CRO): Focus on turning existing visitors into buyers through clearer product descriptions, high-quality images/videos, customer reviews, mobile optimization, and streamlined checkout processes.

  • Build trust and urgency: Display social proof (testimonials, ratings), offer limited-time discounts, use exit-intent popups to capture emails, and provide multiple payment options.

  • Use data to guide decisions: Analyze Google Analytics and Search Console to identify which products attract traffic but don’t convert, then adjust messaging or create targeted promotions.

  • Retargeting and email marketing: Follow up with visitors who didn’t purchase through email campaigns or retargeting ads.

Multiple respondents requested the store URL to provide specific, actionable feedback. The discussion remains open with no resolution yet, pending more details from the original poster.

Hello Lee,

Every eCommerce store owner goes through these struggles. You should understand that you are competing with several others doing the same business.

Maybe, you should focus on organic content too.

  1. Write blogs about the products or niche you are targetting.

2.Make videos regularly on content related to products and also your journey as an ecommerce store owner.

3.Ads will drain your money but organic content will live for a long period of time.

eCommerce Stories

Hi Leelee30,

Welcome to Shopify. Great to see you here.

You’ve asked a question that we all face in our ecommerce world all the time. We all have struggled with Sales sometime on our way. I assume you are already an owner of Shopify store, so I will not dive into technical optimizations needed as those are mostly fulfilled by Shopify.

Here are some things that we suggest to get more sales.

  1. Make your brand visible. With this, I mean not just the website URL, the whole website as a brand. If you are targeting a specific section of the population with your products, you can advertise it to them online. Inform them about your products as well as the store from where you can buy it from. For long, we have seen companies promoting their products but they put their website on the back.
  2. Increase your SEO
    1. Create appealing contents for your visitor. Make it precise. Using Google Trends, Keyword Research Tools, you can find the keywords that you need to include on your contents. Always looking for some extra materials like Video, Tutorials help.
    2. Be sure you have your meta tags, titles and descriptions optimized. Generally, people think Google has stopped taking these into account, but optimized tags do help.
    3. I personally have found a technique useful in case of blogs. Encouraging others to embed your contents. Like if you have a pretty awesome blog, place a content inside that encourages other bloggers to take a quote/text from you, also asking them for a reference.
    4. Craft compelling products descriptions - Highlight the benefits and use high quality images.
  3. Newsletters / email marketing - Yes, this may sound like 2015, but emails still work best. Follow up with your orders, take reviews. It is awesome to have an email list of interested prospects and existing clients. Regularly sending personalized and relevant emails such as promotional offers, product updates keep your brand notified on your customers’ mind.
  4. Put customers first - The system should put customer first. Whether it is for customer inquiries, resolving issues, offering multiple options on payments, refunds and returns, customer needs to come first. (Not encouraging scams though).
  5. Use Data - Analyze your Analytics data. Which products work best?Which products have highest visibility? If your blog have a pretty high visibility, may be putting a link on the bottom of your product (which you want to sell the most) will help. If people are getting into your products, but not buying it, may be create urgency. Give them discount for a limited time or have a first time buyer discount. Something like that.
  6. ADS DO HELP - Google, Social Media ads help a lot if done correctly. Choose products with highest margins for ads as ROI should be justifiable. Make use of relevant products section of Shopify to encourage customers to shop more. Having bundling option for more discounts help.

Relying only on SEO for organic reach will take time. Relying only on Ads will generate revenue, but will take a lot of cost and time and not that loyal customers. So, these two should go hand in hand.

Hope some pointers will be useful to you.

Thanks

Hi there @leelee30 !

Thanks for sharing your query with us here in the Shopify Community!

Would you mind sharing a link to your store with us here so we can take a look?

You mentioned you had tried a few methods already, can you tell me a bit specifically about what you’ve done to drive traffic to your store?

When you’re getting decent numbers of visitors to your store you would then want to be thinking in terms of getting more of those visitors to convert into spenders, ie increasing your Conversion Rate Optimisation (CRO).

In terms of marketing, have you thought about who your target market might be or how you’re going to reach them?

  • enhance the security of your website
  • integrate different payment options
  • drive loyalty
  • implement testimonials and customer reviews
  • build and implement email marketing strategy
  • sell on social media

Test different approaches and find the ones that work for you best.

Please, let me know if you need any assistance.

Most businesses have been there; running ads, getting visitors, and still no sales. What can help is focusing on conversions instead of just traffic. Simple things like clearer product pages, showing reviews, and using a tool like Poptin for popups to collect emails or offer a discount before people leave can make a real difference. Sometimes it’s not about more visitors, but making sure the ones you already have don’t bounce without buying.

Hey, @leelee30!

Here are some quick steps to help you turn traffic into sales:

  1. Attract the right audience: Make sure your ads match what you’re selling and who you’re targeting.

  2. Build trust fast: Add reviews, clear value props, and high-quality photos.

  3. Simplify the funnel: Fewer clicks = better. Make checkout smooth, especially on mobile.

  4. Use social proof & urgency: Show star ratings, real customer photos, limited offers, bundles.

  5. Retarget visitors: Use email or ads to follow up with people who didn’t buy.

  6. Ask why they didn’t buy: A quick survey can reveal what’s missing.

If you want, send your store link and I can give quick, tailored feedback.

Thanks!
