How can I insert a custom field at checkout?

how do I add custom field for customers to enter text at check out stage?

You can only add a custom field if you’re in the Shopify Plus plan. If not, you can consider adding order notes on the cart page instead to collect the extra information from your customer.

Thank you. But I do not see Cart under theme setings.

  1. Theme settings > Cart.

  2. Check Enable cart note

You could try an alternative way here:

  • From Online Store > Themes > Customize
  • From the top center drop-down menu, select Cart.
  • If your theme is online 2.0 you’ll want to click on Subtotal > Enable order notes
  • If not, within sidebar editor > Cart page > Check Enable order notes or Enable cart notes

Thank you but can we change the name of the note to something else? instead of Order special instructions, I want to have something else written.

You’re definitely able to change this:

  • From Online Store > Themes > Actions > Edit Languages
  • Type in Order special instructions for searching
  • Enter whatever you want and hit Save
