Hi All, I need my clients to add some details in their checkout, how to I do this? I need to potentially change where it says “Company Name” to “Username” is this possible or can I add another box in check out with an area to add this? Thanks in advance
Hi, @mybloxavatar . I’m happy to help with this! Can you tell me more about the type of information you need collected at the checkout? I just want to make sure my suggestions will be helpful for what you’re trying to do.
Since the checkout is a secured page, the source code is not made available. This helps to ensure that you and your customer’s information remains safe at all times. Because of this, the checkout can’t be edited beyond the settings found in your Shopify Admin checkout settings, or your theme editor. You can find more information on the customization options for the Shopify checkout here.
You won’t be able to add boxes directly to the checkout for additional information. That being said, there are workarounds to still get the information you need. As you mentioned you can change the wording of the “Company name” field. This won’t change the purpose of the field, meaning the field will still function as if the information entered there is a company name. However, if this isn’t a field you normally use, it is definitely an option. You can change the wording of this field within your language editor. To get there go to Online store > Themes > Customize (next to the theme you want to edit). From here, click … to open the dropdown options and select Edit default theme content. Once you’re in your language editor search for the word or phrase you want to change and replace the default wording with the text you want to see there instead. In this case, you should find the setting under the Checkout & system tab, but you can also just search the word “company” to locate it faster. You find more information on using the language editor here.
If you require customers to enter their username at checkout, another option is to enable the “Require the customer to log in to their account before checkout” setting. This will ensure that orders placed are tied to a customer account on your online store. If you’d like to enable it you can do so by going to Settings > Checkout and checking the box beside the setting Require the customer to log in to their account before checkout under the Customer contact method section. You can also read more about customer accounts here.
Depending on the additional information you want to collect there may be other options as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
