How can I resolve payment processing issues on my new store?

I have just created a store and each time I try to test my sites payment I get the “There was an issue processing your payment. Try again or use a different payment method.”. How can I fix this?

thank you

Erin

hello there

  1. Verify your payment settings: Double-check that you have set up your payment settings correctly. Go to Settings > Payments in your Shopify admin to check that your payment gateway is enabled and that your payment settings are properly configured.

  2. Check with your payment provider: If you’re using a third-party payment provider, such as PayPal or Stripe, check with them to see if there are any issues on their end that could be causing the problem. You can also check your account settings with your provider to ensure they’re properly set up and connected to your Shopify store.

  3. Test with a different payment method: Try using a different payment method, such as a different credit card or PayPal account, to see if the problem persists. This can help you identify whether the issue is with a specific payment method or with your store’s payment processing in general.

  4. Contact Shopify support: If none of the above solutions work, reach out to Shopify support for further assistance. They can help diagnose the issue and provide guidance on how to resolve it.

Hello, @erindoherty16 .

Firstly let me say welcome to Shopify, and congratulations on creating your store! I’d love to hear more about it - what are you selling? What are your plans and goals?

I would definitely echo the steps outlined by @EcomGraduates as a first line of troubleshooting. Another common problem I see is that the test payments you are trying to put through perhaps do not meet the minimum transaction amount. For example, if you were trying to process a payment of 0.01c then you would likely see the error you are seeing above. Some of the minimum transaction amounts for different countries are:

  • USD, AUD, CAD, NZD, SGD: $0.50
  • DKK: 2.50-kr.
  • EUR: €0.50
  • GBP: £0.30
  • HKD: $4.00
  • JPY: ¥50

I trust this helps, Erin. Looking forward to your reply for more details on your store. Thank you!
