For anyone arriving here from search, one distinction worth making first, because it decides everything: are you trying to notify yourself/your staff about incoming orders, or notify your customers about their order status? They’re completely different tool categories and mixing them up wastes a lot of time.

Notifying your customers (order confirmed, shipped, delivered): you want a customer-messaging app. There are many, and they’ll handle the WhatsApp Business templates that customer-facing messages legally require.

Notifying yourself: simpler, because messages to your own number don’t need template approval. Options:

  • Shopify’s mobile app push notifications — free, but all-or-nothing per staff account
  • Shopify Flow with the Scheduled time trigger and, since May 2026, the Get analytics data action for digests. Email only, no WhatsApp action
  • Webhook + Twilio, if you’re comfortable building it
  • An app, for WhatsApp without the setup

Disclosure: I built WhatsReport for that second case — order alerts and daily summaries to the merchant’s own WhatsApp. Not a customer-messaging tool, so if that’s what you’re after, this isn’t it.
