When looking for support in our Community with any theme-related questions, it’s a good idea to include the name of the theme you’re using to attract Community members that have experience with your specific theme. If it is a Shopify theme that you’re using, this customization isn’t supported under our design policy. Does this video you’re looking to autoplay have sound?
Often users’ browsers and devices will automatically block autoplay on videos that have sound. As of April 2018, Google Chrome - which is one of the more popular browsers - has defaulted to disabling autoplay on videos that have sound. More information can be found about this change in this article. This can also be found across other browsers as well. Regardless of browser, many mobile devices - particularly Android and iOS devices - have autoplay disabled by the OS to save users’ mobile data, and so autoplay will often not work for your users. There are other reasons we’d advise against setting up autoplay, such as accessibility. Visually impaired users that use screen readers aren’t able to hear the screen or find out how to stop the video from playing. Others may browse the internet whilst watching TV or preoccupied with other tasks that have sounds. Autoplay video interrupts the user’s task, which usually results in page abandonment. It’s also habitual for users to automatically close a browser tab that has sound by default, ultimately losing a sale and hurting your overall conversions.
