How can I set up a privacy policy and correct address on my online store?

Desperately need help with Privacy Policy right now, I’m using Shopify template and I need guidance on how setting it up, in addition it appears to show a bogus contact address for my store. How can I find the correct address for my online store and should seek legal help to complete the Privacy Policy?

Follow the following steps to generate the privacy policy content for your Shopify store.

  1. Go to the Shopify Admin page.
  2. Go to settings on the bottom left of the Shopify admin page.
  3. Look for a list of options and click on “Policies” from the list.
  4. “Policies” is usually found at the bottom of the list.
  5. Look for policy options on the newly opened page.
  6. Update your Refund Policy, Privacy Policy, Terms of Services, Shipping Policy, and Contact Information on the page.
  7. Except for the Shipping policy, you will find a button “Create from Template” under each policy section.
  8. Click on the button to generate a default policy content.
  9. Paste it into the blank space.
  10. Save the page and your privacy policy is ready.

Note - If you do not wish to use the default template content then you can paste your own content in the blank section instead of generating the default content.

For getting your store address, you can follow these steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click on Settings.
  2. Go to the Store Details section.
  3. Look for your store address.

Thanks for posting your question. I hope you’re doing well!

Can you clarify what address is bogus? Is it your store’s domain address or your business address? If using the Shopify generated template found in Settings > Policies, the template pulls your stores information and includes it in the policy. The address pulled would be the address provided under Settings > General.

That being said, you can adjust the template text as you please. Simply remove the unwanted address and list the correct address in its place. The correct address would be the address you operate your business out of.

When you have completed your privacy policy it will automatically populate in your store’s checkout. However, we recommend adding it to your store’s navigation via the footer menu. To adjust your store’s navigation, head to Online Store > Navigation > Footer. You can then select Add Menu Item, and search for your privacy policy on the right hand side of the screen.
