How can I sort items in a draft order?

It would be beneficial to us to be able to manually sort and re-sort items in draft orders before sending them out. Remembering items in order we would like them to appear when making large draft orders is very difficult. Having the ability to dump all the items in and then sort them according to size or style afterward would greatly improve our customer experience in my opinion. Is there a way to do this that I am not aware of? Would this be beneficial to other businesses?

Hi @edsg ,

For Shopify, here’s how you can approach the issue of manually sorting and re-sorting items in draft orders:

Existing Features in Shopify:1. Drag-and-Drop Sorting: Shopify allows for some level of drag-and-drop sorting in the Shopify Admin for products, but this might not be directly available in draft orders. Draft orders are typically more rigid in how they handle items.

  1. Custom Fields or Tags: You can use custom fields or tags to categorize items within a draft order, but this doesn’t provide a visual sorting option within the draft order itself.

Workarounds and Tools:1. Third-Party Apps: There are apps available in the Shopify App Store that could enhance the draft order functionality. Some apps to explore include:

  • Order Printer Pro: Allows for customization of how orders are displayed and printed, which might help in organizing and presenting orders in a preferred format.
  • Custom Order Scripts: If you’re on Shopify Plus, you can use Shopify Scripts to create custom sorting logic within your draft orders.
  1. Manual Sorting with Export/Import: As a temporary solution, you can export the draft order to a CSV file, manually sort it in a spreadsheet, and then re-import it, or simply reference the sorted list while manually adjusting the order in Shopify.

  2. Custom App Development: If this is a crucial feature for your business, you might consider hiring a Shopify developer to create a custom app or script that allows for better sorting within draft orders. This could be a simple interface addition that lets you drag-and-drop or sort by certain criteria after items are added to a draft order.

Submitting a Feature Request:

If this is a common issue, it might be worth submitting a feature request directly to Shopify. If enough users express the need for this functionality, it could be included in future updates.

Next Steps:- Explore Relevant Apps: I can help you find specific Shopify apps that might suit your needs if you’re interested.

  • Consult a Developer: If custom development is an option, I can provide guidance on how to approach this with a developer.

I ended up finding a tool that had the solution we needed. It is called Draftable - Draft Order Helper. Thank you to them and thank you to all who responded with their brilliant ideas.
