I want to switch themes in order to update my site and the content on it. However, when I attempt to change the navigation, Shopify switches me from the new theme to my live site. For example I changed the title of one of my navigation elements thinking I was still in the demo site but it made the change on my live site! Similarly, I want to re-organize how the site is organized and change other pages apart from the home page. Same thing happens, I get switched to the live site so I can’t ‘stage’ the new site without it affecting my existing, published site. Is there any way around this?

When updating your existing menu, the changes will reflect your live theme because in that theme you have that same ‘main menu’ associated with the navigation that you are tweaking for the upcoming new theme. In this case, you would want to create a new menu from your navigation and make the tweaks for the new theme in there. That way the one linked to your live theme does not get affected.
The same will apply to your inner pages (contact, about us, faq, shipping questions, etc.) that you’ve created as well. Since they are live and are connected to your existing theme, your best bet would be to duplicate those pages/create a new page and work within the new one. That way the existing pages that are connected to your live theme are not affected either.

Can I suggest a pop-up, or some other indication that you can add an alt menu that doesn’t interfere with existing. I shouldn’t have to go to a message board to get this info - even though you were both fast, and helpful!!

Adding new pages is not working the way the Nav change did. What I don’t understand is, I’ve selected a completely different theme (Minimal), but it’s referencing everything in the existing theme (Canopy). It shouldn’t even be looking at that. I’m trying to start fresh - as we pretty much want to change everything about the existing site. Would you be able to list the steps, in order, I need to take to create the pages that match my new navigation?
Also, as a follow-up: Can I not build the additional pages the same way I was able to build the home page? Where I can select components like, text, images, videos, etc. When I tried create new page I simply get a header and text box.
