How can I use the Pause and Build option while developing my online store?

Hi, I have been working on my store at a slow pace and have paid the subscription price for a few months without opening. I really want to be able to still develop my online store without paying so much because it will take me a bit to get it up and running.

I researched and found out that there is a pause and build option. I tried to follow the instructions but they are no longer up to date. However I was able to find this within the settings:

“Remove your online store”

“Sell with Buy Button and in person with Point of Sale for only $9 USD/month”

The Pause and Build option described in the Support Article is also $9 a month, so I wanted to make sure that this is the same option that allows me to continue to work on my site & add products? Also am I able to recover my online store & keep all of my progress?

I do not want to completely loose my store!

Hi @OnARolle

Hope you’re having a great day!

Quick fix: Once you’re near the expiry of your 14-days-trial, contact Shopify’s customer service and request them to extend your trial.

The Pause and Build option described in the Support Article is also $9 a month, so I wanted to make sure that this is the same option that allows me to continue to work on my site & add products?

As specified by Shopify:

When you use the Pause and Build plan, your store continues to run at a reduced cost of $9 USD per month. You can access your Shopify admin and edit your products when you need to, but your checkout is disabled. This means that customers can review your products, but they can’t purchase them.

While you’re on the Pause and Build plan, you can do the following:> > - Access your Shopify admin and edit your products when you need to> - Access basic reports about your site’s performance.> - View your online storefront.> - Accept manual payments using draft orders.> > However, you can’t use your online store checkout, POS, discounts, abandoned checkout recovery, gift cards, and third-party integrations, such as publishing your products to Facebook and Google.> > Consider uninstalling any third-party apps that have recurring charges so that you’re not billed for those apps while you are paused.

And:

Note:> To be eligible to pause your store using either Pause or Pause and Build, your store needs to be on a paid plan and at least 60 days past the free trial period, your account will need to be created after March 1, 2020. If your store doesn’t meet this criteria, then you can’t pause your store. Those with a Shopify Capital offer or using the Shopify Plus plan are not eligible.

In the future, try the Shopify Partner program. With Shopify partner Program you have no time limitation.

So now is there any way to transfer your current store (which has 14 days free trial) under the partner program?

There’s no way to convert your existing Shopify store (14 Day Trial Store) into a development store (Partner Account) with an unlimited trial period. You can transfer the content manually to a development store and take more time until you are ready to launch your store.

Good Afternoon and thank you for taking time to respond to my question. However it did not address my issue. To clarify, I am no longer within my 14 day trial period, I actually had my subscription for about 3 months now. The information you sent regarding the Pause and Build plan, is what I am trying to access however I do not find this option under my settings nor when I select “Cancel Subscription”. I am only seeing the option to “Remove your online store” within my settings, is this equivalent to the “Pause & Build plan”?

Hi @OnARolle

I am only seeing the option to “Remove your online store” within my settings, is this equivalent to the “Pause & Build plan”?

No.

The pause option is available 60 days after the free trial ends so technically this would land on the day of your third subscription invoice. Therefore, this option will be available to you after your third subscription is triggered.

Has your third subscription already been triggered?

Thank you for your time, My third billing wouldn’t be until June 9th so that is what’s wrong. I appreciate your help in resolving this!

Hi @OnARolle

You are welcome! I’m glad it helped you.

Hey, @OnARolle !

Ryder here from the Social Care Team at Shopify. Welcome, and thanks for posting! This is a great question, and it looks like @Morek has already been a great help. Indeed, our Pause plans will only become available to merchants once their store has been on a paid plan for at least 60 days after the end of their trial period.

When you do meet that timeframe, if you’re still unable to locate the Pause and Build option in the Settings > Users and Permissions > Store status section, you should be able to locate it by following the second set of steps in this guide. You’ll need to go to your Admin Settings > Plan and click on the Pause or cancel subscription button at the bottom of the page. This will prompt a pop-up with the option of switching to the Pause and Build plan for $9/month USD:

If for any reason you aren’t able to locate the Pause and Build on your end after the 60 day period, please open up a ticket with us through our Help Center. You’ll need to log in, select your shop, search a topic before continuing over to our contact options. Upon authentication, one of our Support Advisors would be happy to take a closer look at your account to troubleshoot and escalate if necessary.

Please let me know if there’s anything I can clarify.

Cheers.

Hi @Ryder

Hope you’re having a great day!
