How can you verify a buyer's payment on PayPal express checkout?

Hello, how do you confirm if a buyer made a payment? I customer placed an order on through my store and it said paid but haven’t seen the funds added to the paypal account. I use paypal express checkout, and I havent seen funds added to pending payments or current payments. How do you confirm if the buyer made the payment?

Hello, @Light2 !

Thanks for getting in touch!

Have you been able to locate the order in your admin via the Orders section? We should be able to see it in the order timeline if the PayPal transaction has been successful. It would look like my timeline below, except the gateway should say PayPal:

Does it also state under Status that it was successful? Often there will be an API error code listed in the order or timeline, you can see the error codes here to check out the issue further.

If that all checks out then, yet you cannot see the funds in your PayPal account, then it is possible that you have the incorrect email address tied to your PayPal account. For example, Merchants are assigned a PayPal Express account based on the email address they use when signing up for Shopify. Once you make your first sale with PayPal, you are instructed to complete the account setup. If a different email address is used to set up PayPal after orders have already been made, then you may not receive funds from the previous orders. If you cannot locate PayPal funds, please check Settings > Payment Providers to check which email address is connected to your PayPal account.

If this is not the address you wish to use, please check your email inbox for an email from PayPal, asking you to confirm and complete your account setup. Be mindful to also check spam, junk and other folders too in case it was missed. After this is completed, you should have access to the funds once PayPal releases them. This can take up to two business days in some cases. If this was the email address you wanted to use, and it was connected during the sale, you might need to check your email and see if the account is fully set up to receive funds. The PayPal account must always be a business account, to be used with Shopify. Let me know how that goes!

By the way, I don’t know if you have anything planned for BFCM this year, but now is the time to make some preparations. BFCM is one of the biggest sales weekends of the year and sees the start of the holiday season as well. Every year, my go-to is this BFCM Checklist right here! It allows me to make sure that I am making the best use of my time and resources, and it really helps take the pressure off by starting early. It is well worth the read should you be interested!
