How do I analyze the average number of sessions that it takes a customer to convert?

Hi,

I would like to analyze my customer behavior and determine how many conversions I get from people during their 1st session vs. people who visit multiple times before converting. Does anyone know a way to gather this data from the reports? Ideally, I would love a result that shows me this:

For a given time period, out of X number of customers who made a purchase,

Y% of them did so in their 1st session

Z% of them did so in their 2nd session

and so on…

But I’d settle for just knowing how many bought in their 1st session.

Thanks for any ideas!

Hi :waving_hand: ,

You can use Google Analytics to track this data:

  1. Set Up Goals: Ensure you have a purchase goal set up.

  2. Create Custom Reports:

    • Go to Customization > Custom Reports > +New Custom Report.
    • Add “Goal Completions” as a metric.
    • Add “Session Count” as a dimension.
  3. Create Segments:

    • Go to Audience > Overview.
    • Add a segment for users with “Sessions” equals “1” and who completed the purchase goal.
    • Create additional segments for users with “Sessions” equals “2”, and so on.

Apply these segments to your reports to see conversion rates based on the number of sessions. This will give you the percentage of users converting in their first session versus subsequent sessions.

Hope this helps!
