How do I set up a scheduled fetch in Google Merchant Center?

I am trying to follow the steps from this guide:

https://medium.com/@sandeep-parihar/how-to-add-shopify-google-shopping-feed-with-the-google-merchant-center-5469e3508f68

But I am stuck on the uploading methods step.

I want to do scheduled fetch in Google Merchant Center but I can’t find any guides on how to do it. How do I host a file on my website that contains data? I need the URL to do scheduled fetches.

Hello,

There’s two ways I’m aware of to create the feed that you can import into Google Merchant Center.

(If you haven’t checked it out already, there’s also the free Google sales channel although we’ve seen lots of stores have issues with the data not syncing correctly.)

The first way is to edit your theme and create a page on your website that will generate the theme. This requires experience with the Liquid templating language but it’s free and you can customize the output if you need to. I haven’t done this myself but you can find an example of a Liquid file that creates the feed here.

The other way would be to use a third-party app. There’s a number of apps on the App Store (including our Ablestar Bulk Product Editor) that let you create a feed that gets published to a specific URL. You can then copy that URL into Google Merchant Center. These apps will typically give you more control over how and when your data is imported.

Best,

Daniel

In Shopify, you need to build an app if you want to host your own data feed. That for a single business, will be pretty hard to setup and maintain. And I recommend you use ready built solutions.

For example a free but limited functionality can be used such as: https://apps.shopify.com/google?search_id=e41101da-254f-4154-8900-5ec70265adcc&show_store_picker=1&surface_detail=google+shopping&surface_inter_position=1&surface_intra_position=12&surface_type=search

Or if you want lots of functionality and multi currency / language support, use: https://apps.shopify.com/multiple-google-shopping-feeds
