We processed a shopify pos transaction for the wrong amount. We’d like to void this sale and reenter it
Hey, @jeffk595 .
Thank you for reaching out and posting this question.
There isn’t a way to void a transaction on Shopify POS once the transaction has been processed at this time. However, you can still refund an order using Shopify POS and then process the order again for the correct amount.
That being said, there is an early access feature to cancel an order using Shopify POS. However, this is only available to certain merchants. Once this feature is fully rolled out, you will be able to cancel orders within 15 minutes during the authorized state of the transaction.
I noticed that you’re a new member of our Shopify Community! I’d love to hear more about your business and share some resources to help you get started. What kinds of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?
Thanks for the reply. It seems strange we are unable to void a transaction before the batch is settled. It’s been a standard feature of any card processing system. Voiding the transaction allows us to avoid paying any transaction fees. Refunding the sale, I assume, leaves the charged fees intact. We have a high average ticket so it’s a large penalty to pay for trying to rectify an error.
Hey, @jeffk595 .
Thanks for following up.
You can capture your payments manually for online orders, which allows you to cancel the transaction during the authorization period. If you’d like to learn more about this, then we’d encourage taking a look at our guide on payment authorization and capture. However, while this doesn’t apply to in-person sales since the transaction is captured at the time of processing, we’d be happy to share your feedback with our development team.
If you have any other questions on this topic, then don’t hesitate to let me know.
