How do you prioritize which tasks to tackle first each day?
Topic summary
Participants share different approaches to daily task prioritization:
Energy-based prioritization:
- One user schedules high-focus tasks for morning hours when mental energy peaks
- Lower-intensity work like emails and replies are reserved for afternoons
- Switching tasks when mentally fatigued helps maintain productivity
- Daily exercise (at least one hour) supports overall balance and mental stamina
Urgency-based prioritization:
- Another approach ranks tasks by deadline pressure and time sensitivity
- Most urgent and pressing items receive top priority
The discussion remains open with only two distinct strategies presented so far, leaving room for additional perspectives on task management methods.
I rank tasks by intensity of brainpower used. Those that require extra focus I do first thing in the morning, replies and emails go in the afternoon. Sometimes even the simplest, mundane things can wear me out mentally… when that happens I switch tasks.
Whatever it is, I try to exercise for at least an hour each day. It helps me stay balanced.
I generally prioritize tasks based on the urgency of the situation. The more urgent and pressing the task, the higher I place it on my list.
