I am new to shopify and wanted to know if something we are looking at would work or not. I guess there will be lots of experienced people on here that would have been down this path before.
We have a site that we originally built in Joomla. We decided to add a shop and picked shopify. After looking at all the additional features that shopify has we decided to build the whole site on the shopify platform.
If you look at this link Home you will see we had a filter system so that people could pick a country and then that would allow them to pick a city (only cities in that country would appear) and then based on the city they could narrow it down to suburbs and cuisines and so on.
Would the same scenario be possible to build within the shopify environment?
Yes, Shopify do support a product filter system and the one which you’re referring to is pretty advanced as well so it won’t be easily possible to do but with correct knowledge, you’ll be able to achieve it without any hesitation. Happy to help you out if you require any help.
Would not be difficult at all (except you’d need to enter all the data, of course )
You can define product metafields for Country, Province and City,
then for each product assign these metafields and use free Shopify app “Search & Discovery” to add these metafields to filter criteria.
Any theme should pickup here and display drop-downs similar to what you’ve created so far.
Hi @jim5 ,
Since you’re new to Shopify and don’t want to get into heavy coding right away:
Start with Product Filter & Search by Boost or Globo → they’re drag-and-drop, support multi-level filters, and integrate well with Shopify.
Store your hierarchy (Country → City → Suburb → Cuisine) in product metafields.
