How many stores can I create with one account?

I can’t find an answer to this - Shopify allows users to create more than one store in their account. It doesn’t appear that there is an additional charge for each store in the same account, but apparently, there is - I saw something about a 14-day free trial when I created a second store and then a header with an annual offer of 50% off if I prepay for a year for a new account.

So it seems that when I created the new store, I can expect to be billed also for that store on top of my existing store.

I’ve had an account for over a year and never figured out how to use the site to sell ebooks. I wanted to set up something for people to request a free catalog by mail for another business idea and couldn’t do it in MailChimp, so I thought I’d try Shopify and create a new store for it. But I can’t pay more money for something that won’t be used to actually sell anything.

I wish Shopify would be a lot more clear about this in the features and plan comparison - I’m going to delete the new store and see if I can come up with a way to make my one store “generic” but still inviting for visitors.

Any advice would sure be appreciated.

Thank you,
Ernie

Hi there @ErnieNet . Thank you for posting your question. I’m happy to help you out with this!

You can have multiple stores under the same Shopify ID (also known as single login, single sign-on, or SSO). A Shopify ID includes your email address and a password which you use to log in to all the stores, programs, and resources on Shopify that you have access to. That being said, each store you create would have its own subscription fee. This means that if you create two stores you would be able to log in to them both and easily switch between them using the same Shopify ID, but you would still need to pay the subscription for each store account separately. You can read more about Shopify IDs on this page. You can also compare the available subscription options on this page.

I’m happy to help you out further with your stores as well. Are you still using your first store to sell ebooks? We have a helpful guide on selling digital products here. Can you also tell me more about the areas of your ebook store you are having trouble with and how you would like it to be set up? Would your free catalog be a part of your ebook store or would the free catalog be for the second store you were trying to create?

I look forward to helping with this!

The ebook thing was complicated because I wanted to have several options for the buyer:

  • To download the pdf version and have a place with instructions and links to download popular ebook versions o the book to install in their favorite e-reader.
  • To be redirected to Amazon where they could get the Kindle version or the Print on Demand versions - the sale would go through Amazon and the link would be my affiliate link (which Amazon permits).

The catalog thing is a free physical catalog mailed to them. It’s completely unaffiliated with the ebook business above - different business (dba) identities, but the same “company” (my sole proprietorship’s fictitious business name).

I don’t know if I can have custom pages on a single template - if so, the site could use my company name with each page showing the appropriate DBA and having the unique items for that DBA shown. I’d also like to have a separate check-out page based on an item. Is there a custom URL that could take a person directly from an ad of landing page to the checkout page that has the item (the free catalog) pre-selected?

Thank you,

Ernie
