How to activate self-fulfilment and shipment for a small company?

Topic summary

How to self‑fulfill and ship orders in Shopify for a small, domestic‑only business while avoiding extra fees.

  • Use Shopify’s default fulfillment location. Set your business address as the location and assign product inventory to that location so incoming orders route there.

  • Ship orders yourself with your chosen carrier. After shipping, enter the tracking number in Shopify; the order is marked fulfilled and the customer is notified with tracking info.

  • Configuration notes: A default location can’t be removed; each product must have inventory at a location. Local delivery and local pickup are optional methods you can enable separately from shipping.

  • Recommended next steps: Set up your store and place a test order to understand the flow. Review Shopify’s fulfillment documentation (linked) for detailed steps, and plan a shipping strategy (linked resource) as that can be the more complex part.

  • Outcome/status: Guidance provided with documentation links; practical steps outlined. No disagreements raised; the discussion appears largely resolved with actionable instructions.

Does anyone know who to activate, enable, or choose self-fulfilment and shipment? I am starting a small company and I wouldn’t stand for any extra fees, knowing that I will deliver only in my country, so I can manage.

But does anyone know how to start that, shipping by myself?

You will have a default fulfillment location (your business address or whatever you select) in Shopify to start. When new orders come in they will be fulfilled to that location.

Just ship the orders yourself and enter the tracking number in Shopify afterwards, it will mark the order fulfilled and send the notification to the customer with the tracking info.

how to set up the default location, I see that there are many options, including local delivery and local pick-up. Is it under custom order fulfilment? Because I am the one who is gonna fulfil it and ship it. can u describe more? Thank you.

The best thing to do is set up a Shopify store and make a test order. You will see how everything works.

I don’t believe it’s possible to remove a default location, there will always be a location assigned to an order. Every product that has inventory needs to have a location with inventory stocked, so just set the product to your location only and it will show up like that in the order.
