How to add a verification code to a website using meta tags?

Hi there,

i want to add a verification code to my shopify account which says that I’m the owner of my website.

In order to do so I need to add a meta tag. So I went to Theme → Actions → Edit Code. I opened open theme.liquid and added my meta tag (acb838b4fc82f1d" content=“6810d7af53f7924b8caa16e34f3661a3”) in the < head>. See:

But somehow it’s not working. I’ve waited for over an hour now and it’s still not working. Any solutions? Am I doing something wrong here?

Hi, @daisyweber !

Just to get some more context on how to help, can I ask where you got the verification code for your website? There are steps here you can follow if you wanted to verify you are the site owner with Google, I’ve linked a video below! It’s important to remember that your storefront password needs to be disabled for your site to be crawled and verified, if your password is still enabled the authentication process will be blocked.

If you wanted to verify your site another way apart from Google, could you let me know what steps you are following so I can get a better idea on how to help? Thanks!

Hi @Ava I got the verifiation code from Daisycon. I need to add the code into my website and then verify in Daisycon that I’m the owner. My website isn’t online yet, can that cause the problem?

Hey again, @daisyweber !

I do think this may be the issue, that your storefront password is still enabled. I’m not familiar with Daisycon at the moment, but I would imagine they have a similar setup as Google for verifying the ownership of a domain/website. I do know for Google, you will need to remove your storefront password in order for the domain to be verified, as it needs to be public for the verification to happen.

I did find this page on account verification on Daisycons support site though! There is a method (method 4 at the bottom of the article) that mentioned you can ask Daisycon for help with verification if you do not have access to your site at the moment. Would this method work for you in the meantime while your store is still password protected?

Let me know what you think!

Thank you! I will try to do this.
