How to allow customers to upload prescriptions at checkout?

We are selling medical equipment on our site. Depending on whether or not a customer has a prescription, determines if we collect sales tax. Is there a way to a) have the customer upload the prescription at checkout? and b) if the customer does upload the file, have the sales tax set to exempt?

We will likely have thousands of customers coming to the site with prescriptions and will need to be able to easily exempt them from sales tax.

Same request in here, we do receive a lot of payment using bank transfer and we need the transfer confirmation to be attached, a solution to your request will help us a lot in this cases

Hi @cshomemed and @miguel1182 ,

While the user is at the checkout page Shopify doesn’t know whether this user will place an order or not.

So the uploading feature should be available at the order placed success screen or at the product level.

hi, how did you figure out that the customer is sales tax exempt if they upload the file with prescription?

Just a quick reply for anyone else looking for information on this topic.

Shopify can be made a part of a HIPAA-compliant solution so long as you are storing your HIPAA & PHI ( also know as ePHI) data outside of Shopify and using a HIPAA-compliant webhost.

We do this all the time. There are some key concepts that need to be followed .. all dictated by your workflows for purchase.

If you are storing prescription products + customer information in Shopify then you are in violation of the basic tenants of HIPAA & the Office of Civil Rights requirements for handling such data.

Also happy to talk to people about how we can help.
