How to close a store with an invoice payment failure error?

I need help closing down a store as i had no sales at all but every time i try i get Invoice payment failed:inssuficient funds error

Hey @D0lan .

Thanks for reaching out to the Shopify Community. I would be more than happy to help you with your question.

It’s disappointing to hear that you would like to close your shop and cancel your account. Was there something that you would like to do but unable to do so? We are here to help you grow your business, so please don’t hesitate to voice out your concern and rest assured that we are here to help you out. But respecting your decision, the reason this error ‘payment failed:insufficient funds error’ is appearing is usually because you have an outstanding/ pending invoice that requires to be settled before you go ahead and close the account. It was unable to charge the card on file due to insufficient funds. In this case, you would need to settle this invoice before you can close the account fully.

With that being said, you can always let your account freeze and this would essentially close the store. Shopify makes three attempts to get the amount paid. Failure of all three attempts would lead to freeze your account. In simple terms, this means you won’t be able to work on your Shopify store until the outstanding bill is settled. You can learn more about Frozen stores here.

I thought I would offer a few suggestions to help you out! To cut down costs, you could switch to our Pause and Build plan this, reduces your monthly cost to just $9/month, and you can keep working on your store. Just to check, have you considered moving to the Annual plan? You would save $36/year on your subscription by choosing the annual Basic Shopify plan. As a free bonus you get Custom calculated rates included which is an additional saving of $240. That’s a total savings of $276 if you need the Custom calculated option!
