I understand you are wondering how to enable PayPal as a payment gateway so your customers can select it at checkout, is that right?

When choosing a payment provider, consider the countries where your business is located and where your customers live. Shopify’s list of payment gateways by country can help you determine which payment gateway is available in your country and what currency they support.

If you are eligible to use PayPal as a gateway, then there should be a PayPal business account automatically set up for you, as it comes with signing up for Shopify.

To finish setting this up you can follow the steps:

From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Payments.

  1. In the Supported payment methods section, find PayPal.

  2. Click Manage.

  3. Click Deactivate.

  4. Click Deactivate again to confirm.

  5. Click Activate.

  6. Enter the email address for your PayPal account, and then click Next:

  7. Enter the password for your PayPal account, and then click Log In:

    Note

    If you’ve used another PayPal account recently, the email for that account might already be filled in. Make sure you’re using the email for the account you want to connect to your store.

    To find your PayPal account email address, go to Settings > Store details, and then find your Store contact email in the Contact information section.

  8. On the PayPal permissions page, click I Give Permission.

    Note

    If your account is already set up, then you don’t see the permissions page.

  9. On the PayPal confirmation page, click Go back to Shopify.

  10. Make a test transaction to make sure everything is set up properly.
