How to manage individual collapsible tabs for each product?

I am trying to use collapsible tabs to describe my product and add extra info apart from the description but everytime I add a tab to one product page It shows up on my other product page which has its own collapsible tabs and when I try and hide them on one product page it hides them on both. I’ve tried metafeilds and they don’t seem to work and I’ve tried creating different theme templets for each product and that didn’t seem to work either. I also have a video section for one product that is doing the same thing. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi there @clayton64 . I’m happy to help you out with this! I just have a few questions to make sure I give you the best advice.

  • What information are you adding into your collapsible tabs?
  • Can you tell me more about the video section you have on that one product? Did you want this video added to the product media section of your product page or will this be a different kind of section?

It sounds like you may be adding the information for your collapsible tabs directly into your theme editor. When you edit products using your theme editor you are actually editing a template that is applied to the products you create in your Shopify Admin. For example, if you add text to a collapsible tab block using your theme editor, you are actually editing your Default product template and you are adding that text to every product using that product page template (which is all of your products by default, unless you manually change it). You can read more about using templates on this page.

Instead of editing your product information within your theme editor, you will want to edit this using the product details page in your Shopify Admin. You can get there by going to Products and selecting the product you want to edit. Since there won’t be fields automatically available to enter information for your collapsible tabs, this is where using metafields comes in. You can use metafields to save and display information that isn’t usually captured in the Shopify Admin. I know you mentioned that you tried this in the past. Are you able to walk me through the steps you took to set this up?

At the moment there are ultimately three steps to use metafields. I’ve included an example of the steps below, but you can also find more information on using metafields here.

Step 1: Create the metafield definition following these steps.

Step 2: Add the metafield value following these steps (you will be adding the information to your product page in this example).

Step 3: Connect the metafield to your theme following these steps.

Please let me know if you have any questions!
