I am erasing hundred, if not thousands of fake customers who have signed up to our newsletter. Clearly the names are not of any humans. So just out of curiosity I wonder if anyone knows if I can prevent these from filling our customers list? And are they generated to harm our system, or simply just som crap in order to have us getting back to some spamming jerks?
In your case, I suggest you should use a contact form that includes Captcha function to prevent spam for your newsletter sign-up form. You can easily find a Shopify application that has Captcha to help you out, here’s something I found that may be useful for you:
If the idea of having captcha isn’t to your liking, you can check out this one app that helps to prevent spamming as well: Spam Protection - by CleanTalk. The only one concern I’ve found so far is that they have less reviews than other normal contact form builder apps. But if it’s a good fit for you then maybe it’s the one you need.

As @HappyPoints already mentioned, it might be worthwhile setting up a Captcha function on your store. We actually have a great help doc here which walks you through setting that up on your store via online store > preferences. Merchants have experienced success in reducing fake customer account and spam emails by adding Googles reCaptcha to their site, that being said, this does not mean that it will prevent it altogether. Furthermore, as this is a function operated by Google, this would fall outside our scope of support so if there are any issues with it, you would need to get in touch with Google support here for assistance.
Are you new to Shopify? I’d also be interested to hear more about your business, what you are selling, and what your sales goals are for this year. I would be more than happy to assist!
