I would like to find a way to rename the “Default product” template name in the Shopify admin so that it’s more descriptive. We are building three product templates for three specific product types the client has that require different layouts and content. However, none of the three can be assumed to be the “Default” since they are all equally important in their catalog.
We were hoping to be able to rename the “Default” label of the product.json template so that in the admin it can appear more descriptive, even if it still acts as the “Default” template (i.e. is auto-assigned to new products). Renaming product.json to something more descriptive in the “edit code” view does not do the trick, the “Default product” template option shows up in the admin but just 404s when a product is assigned to it because it doesn’t actually exist in the files.
Any ideas? Not a critical item but figured I’d ask in case anyone else has come across this use-case and found a solution.
Thanks!
