Shopify store owners cannot resend order confirmation emails if none was initially sentâtypically occurring when customers complete checkout without entering an email address or when email is added to a draft order after creation. The platform only allows resending confirmations that were successfully sent originally.
Current Workarounds:
- Send manual invoices to customers
- Share the âView Order Status Pageâ link (accessible via More Actions menu)
- Use the tracking number edit trick: add existing tracking as ânew,â delete original line, triggering a resend option
- Send regular emails with order page screenshots
Community Frustration:
Merchants have requested this feature since at least 2022, expressing frustration that such a basic function remains unavailable. Many view it as unprofessional when unable to provide order confirmations to customers who forgot to enter emails or made typos. Shopify staff acknowledged the feedback and submitted it as a feature request but provided no timeline for implementation.
Status: Unresolved after 3+ years, with merchants continuing to rely on workarounds while awaiting official solution.
Looks like this is still an issue? Found another workaround though, click on the 3 dots at the top of the order history page, edit tracking, click on add a new tracking number, paste in the existing tracking number, delete the first tracking line, and it lets you âresendâ the email.

Please fix this ASAP I have clients who are waiting on their invoice if they have forgot to put email, then I have to cancel make a new one and if you have a queue of clients its incredibly time consuming. This is very frustrating! Its happened many times with us.
I used this trick to resend a fulfillment email when I forgot to click on the button to notify user. That was helpful. This workaround doesnât help when you want to send an order confirmation to a user that didnât have a email entered when the order was placed.
Thank you so much for this! Crazy that we are unable to send this email. But this worked for my customer and the option below to resend the shipment notification for that thank you!!
For anybody that had the option for customers to create an account via email or phone number, change it to email and you wonât have this issue ever again! Thatâs what my problem was and luckily only happened once!
