I wanted to take a moment to share our overall experience with your Shopify store Afday. First and foremost, the transition from Magento to Shopify has been nothing short of amazing. The platform is user-friendly, and we’ve seen a significant improvement in our store’s performance and customer experience.
However, there’s one aspect we’re still trying to figure out, and we’re hoping for some guidance. We’d like to understand how to track which products customers have added to their shopping carts. In Magento, we had a feature that allowed us to monitor this data, but it’s been a bit challenging to replicate this in Shopify.
Our goal is to gain insights into customer preferences and buying behavior, which is crucial for tailoring our marketing strategies and enhancing our product offerings. We believe that knowing which products are added to carts can provide valuable information in this regard.
Thank you for your time, and we look forward to your response and assistance.
Hi Jacqui - I hope you’re well. I think this question might be best
directed to another Shopifolk - it’s outside of my product area and
expertise. I help lead product marketing efforts for Shopify Magic,
Shopify’s AI-enabled product portfolio.
Unfortunately, Shopify doesn’t have the specific report you are hoping for. We do provide store behavior reports, and you are able to see what products are added to carts by checking Abandoned Checkouts, however there isn’t an easy way to accomplish this.
There are, however, third party reporting apps that may provide what you’re looking for. For example, a popular reporting app is Better Reports.
In the meantime, as I can understand how important this feature is to you, I will submit this as a feature request to our developers on your behalf.
You can achieve this with Report Pundit. We offer the option to track your abandoned cart, where you get to see the product, variant, quantity, and more data for analysis.
You can also track your customer journey, purchase behavior, and more with our reports. Feel free to use our app to see if it fits your needs.
We have created an app called Cart Whisper that offers just that and much more.
This gives you live insights into what’s happening in your customer’s cart showing what customers add or remove from their cart, you can then see the country the customer lives in the device they are using, and you also have the option to convert the customer’s cart to a draft order with a click of a button, but also includes several other features:
Real-time Insights: View live updates of items being added or removed from carts.
Convert Draft to Orders: Convert customer carts into draft orders with a single click, useful for quotes or order issues.
Cart Page Widget: A unique widget assigns each visitor a distinct cart ID for easy customer and cart identification.
Widget Customization: Fully customizable widget appearance, including text, font, borders, and color schemes.
Exit Intent Popup: Activates a popup when customers show signs of leaving, with customizable design.
Comprehensive Analytics: Detailed analytics on cart value, cart count, average value, draft orders, top products, customer locations, and device types.
As other commenters pointed out, Shopify lacks this functionality, to track what happens on your store on the product level. What apps, like Datma do, is to track all page views, user events from your store and combine it with data available from Shopify to help you get the best insights possible. Just take a look at this demo (no sign-in/registration required) : https://demo.datma.io or this link directly to a product report: https://demo.datma.io/shopify/reporting/metrics/1416 , there are a lot of measures available to understand how your products are performing (you can use Edit columns to see what else is there).
