Main issue: Whether CSV import (bulk product upload via spreadsheet) can include links to digital files so they auto-upload to Shopify’s Digital Downloads app and attach to products for a large catalog (~50k items).
Current status: Shopify’s Digital Downloads app does not support uploading/attaching digital files via CSV import. No field exists in the CSV for file attachments.
Update/Outlook: A feature request to add bulk digital product import was submitted to Shopify’s development team. Any changes would be announced on the Shopify Changelog.
Alternatives: Third-party apps may support bulk digital file management, including Sky Pilot and SendOwl. More options can be explored in the Shopify App Store under digital products/digital downloads.
Action items: Evaluate third-party solutions and contact their developers via the Support section on each app’s page for implementation guidance.
Resolution: Unresolved. Native CSV support for Digital Downloads is not available; the discussion remains open pending potential future Shopify updates.
Is it possible to include links to digital files during CSV import so they are automatically uploaded to the “Digital Downloads” app and linked to the products?
I’m looking at setting up a store with over 50k products, all digital files, and unless i’m being stupid i can’t see anywhere in the CSV import file for digital file attachments
Thank you for taking the time and posting this question!
I’m afraid there isn’t a way to upload digital products using CSV import with Digital Downloads at the moment. However, given the ever-increasing popularity of digital products (eg. ebooks, NFTs, etc.), it does make sense to have some way of importing digital products in bulk and I’d be more than happy to share your suggestion as a feature request with our development team. If Shopify moves forward with any changes or releases new features, then we’ll be sure to announce them on the Shopify Changelog.
That being said, while I understand that Digital Downloads may not be the best option in your use-case, there are some third-party options, such as Sky Pilot and SendOwl, that could be worth exploring as they may include some features that can help you accomplish this task. You can also take a look at the Shopify App Store for more options here: digital products/digital downloads. If you need any help with a third-party app, then the app developer is always available to assist you - simply reach out to the developer using the contact information found in the Support section of their app’s page.
I noticed that you’re a new member of our Shopify Community! I’d love to hear more about your business and share some resources to help you get started. What types of digital products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?
