Users are unable to tag their Shopify stores on Instagram, receiving a ācontent not available in this regionā error despite having global availability settings. The issue affects merchants primarily in the UK, Switzerland, and other non-US regions.
Root Cause:
Meta recently changed policies to only support Instagram Shops with Facebook/Instagram checkout enabled. This checkout feature is currently restricted to US-based accounts only, effectively breaking the Shop feature for international merchants.
Key Findings:
One user contacted Meta and was told the issue is temporary, with no estimated timeline for resolution
Another discovered that shop owners cannot view their own shops from their accounts, but other users can access them normally
Metaās customer service is difficult to reach; one workaround is using the āGet Supportā button in Shopifyās Facebook/Instagram app integration
Current Status:
No official fix available. The discussion remains open with merchants expressing frustration over lost sales. One user suggested testing with third-party Instagram apps like Instander to troubleshoot regional visibility issues.

Hi my UK store is linked to instagram. I can see my products and I can tag products in my posts. But I cannot tag my store, it says my Content not available - content cannot be seen in this region. (But it is available Global)
Facebook (Meta) has recently implemented changes that they will only support Facebook and Instagram Shops with Checkout on Facebook and Instagram checkout. More information on Metaās Business Help Center.
I would like to set the expectation that this decision was made by Meta and as such, it would be best to contact Meta Support directly to inquire further. You can contact their support team through your Facebook Sales Channel of your Shopify admin or log into your Facebook account directly.
Shopify have suggested I get in touch with Meta about this as it is not originating from Shopify. I havenāt got round to it yet, but will let you know if I get any answers,
Iāve also noticed this and tried to do some digging. So far as I can tell, Instagram Shop is now only available to Instagram accounts that enable checkout with instagram/facebook⦠no problem I thought - Iāll just enable checkout via Instagram & Facebook⦠BUT⦠you can only enable this if youāre in the US (Iām in the UK). So for now it seems like Meta have broken the Shop feature on Instagram for everyone outside the US. This is beyond frustrating and is already costing us sale. Gutted. If anyone has a workaround/fix PLEASE let us all know!
Hi, I contacted meta and they told me you canāt look at ur own shop from your insta account, if u get someone else to go to ur account and click on the tab it works (it did in my case anyway) hope that makes sense and it works for you all.
Hi, if you have a shopify website (Iām not sure about other websites builders) u can contact Facebook through them. If u have the Facebook insta app loaded onto ur website click on it and it will take u to this page and there is a āget support ā button in the top right hand corner and that connects you to meta for a live chat
I spoke with Meta on the phone about this as I was concerned my shop wasnāt displaying correctly. If you live in the UK your store wonāt be accurate/visible due to a recent update with Meta. They did assure me this is a temporary inconvenience and as long as you have been approved for Instagram shopping your store/shop on Instagram will update correctly as soon as they have allowed access from the UK. In short - it is a problem from Metaās side, which will only be ātemporaryā although they couldnāt give me an estimated time frame for the new update.
Hey, yes Iāve seen this issue happen before, especially when Instagramās content delivery gets restricted by region ā even if everything is set to āGlobal.ā Sometimes itās less about store settings and more about how Instagram processes content regionally.
In my case, I found it helpful to test visibility through an alternative Instagram interface on Android. Thereās an app called Instander that offers extended control over how Instagram loads and interacts with content, great for seeing how posts behave in different regions. Itās not official, but many use it for troubleshooting and testing purposes.
You can look it up by searching Instander app site, itās available through platforms like the iinstanderapp website.
