Inventory report

Topic summary

  • Issue: Month-end inventory report includes products set to “not track inventory,” showing negative quantities. Request: run the report excluding non-tracked items.

  • Current status (native Shopify): Built-in reports lack filters to select only tracked items or exclude non-tracked items. Shopify’s API (data access interface) also doesn’t provide historical inventory values, limiting retroactive reporting.

  • Workarounds (third-party apps):

    • Report Toaster: Inventory history and filtering to meet the requirement; history only accrues from installation date due to API constraints.
    • Report Pundit: Custom/scheduled reports and multi-store consolidation; sample report screenshots provided to illustrate the capability.
    • Mipler (Advanced Reports): Can filter to show only tracked items; offers a 7-day trial and support to build tailored reports; screenshot demonstrates the tracked-items filter.
  • Notes on attachments: Images are central for demonstrating report layouts and filtering in the suggested apps.

  • Outcome: No native Shopify solution to exclude non-tracked items in the inventory report. Practical next step is adopting a third‑party reporting tool; the thread remains open without a built-in resolution.

when running a month end inventory report, the report is listing products which we do not track inventories and these quantities are negative.

i checked the product and the product is setup to not track inventory.

can i run this report to exclude non-tracked inventory items?

It appears that the Shopify report doesn’t have that much flexibility in filtering. So you can’t filter to only Tracked items.

Our Report Toaster app can help. We have an inventory history feature which can provide the functionality you are seeking. Note that the history started from the day you install the app and enable that feature, as Shopify’s API does not provide historical values for inventory. Hey @SPECKHUNTER ,

Unfortunately Shopify does not have the flexibility to create the custom report you have mentioned at this moment.

However, You can use a reporting tool if your Shopify business relies on custom reports for data analysis. With a reporting tool you can schedule your reports, consolidate data from multiple stores, various apps and also get expert assistance to build the reports you need.

Here is a sample report for the requirement posted:

Feel free to reach us out if you need any help with reporting.

Cheers!

Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, achieving this with Shopify’s native functionality isn’t possible.

However, I’d like to recommend checking out the functionality of our application. Here you can easily apply filter to see only tracked items:
