I had a similar discussion previously with another user regarding this topic, feel free to go through the thread here in case it helps you gather a bit more information.
I’m interested to hear more about your own store however, and your plans on how you’ll be using GoDaddy’s Website Builder, to see where Shopify can come in.
Is your business currently up and running on GoDaddy, or are you still in the process of building it? Do you also have the ecommerce plan on GoDaddy, that allows you to list products, accept online payments, and offer shipping options to customers?
Thanks for the quick reply. I was planning to use my GoDaddy website as the primary focus of the business, with other things (like a Shopify store) as an ancillary site, unless there are distinct advantages (i.e. ease of use, a way to connect a single message across all social media platforms, marketing & more sales channels, etc) than GoDaddy has. Otherwise, I can see that I will be “doubling up” on the services provided and expenses.
Currently, my business is up and running on GoDaddy and I’m paying $208 for 1 year of web hosting, web domain support & eCommerce including through the major social media platforms. It does also allow me to list products, accept online payments and offer shipping options to customers. My products all fit in a number 10 envelope, so unless someone orders 1-5 lbs of them (not likely) there won’t be any shipping needs beyond that or for any international sales, at least for the short term.
Are there anything unique to Shopify that makes it more appealing to our customers or any advantages (in product or SEO) that GoDaddy does not have?
Thanks for the added context @LonestarJay , appreciate you sharing that with me.
When it comes to customer appeal, depending on your store and which payment gateway you enable on your store, Shopify can offer a myriad of different accelerated checkout options that’ll help streamline your store’s checkout process. This will leave less time for customers on your store to dwell on their purchasing decision, which will ultimately help increase conversion rates. If your store is eligible for Shopify Payments, a big advantage that we offer merchants is Shop Pay, an accelerated checkout method that a lot of customers are now familiar with and often look for when shopping. You can read more about our Shop Pay feature in this guide, and the advantages of accelerated checkout in this blog.
If you opt into Shop Pay, another advantage you’ll have is that the products on your store can also be featured in our Shop app, an exclusive app for Shopify merchants. Being featured in the Shop app will put your products in front of more shoppers, which will provide your store with more visibility. For customers, the Shop app gives them the ease of a frictionless checkout experience, allowing them to easily purchase from you again with their saved details, while being able to track their order and package at the same time all in one app.
Those two features are just a couple of the advantages that merchants on our platform have, to help with conversion rates and customer retention. Other aspects available on Shopify, which you may have come across, are our many marketing tools, built-in SEO features (as well as the ability to optimize these yourself), linking your store to your social media accounts, and the option to install apps from our Shopify App Store to add a customized feature (without the need to code) to your store. I know you mentioned that you don’t currently offer cross-border selling, but for the long-term, merchants on our platform can also make use of our Shopify Markets feature to help set up and optimize international selling.
