Is it possible to replace/translate the Pages/Collections/Products in the URL to another language?

Topic summary

A user asks whether it’s possible to translate URL segments like “/products/”, “/collections/”, and “/pages/” into another language for their Spanish-language Shopify store (using the Refresh theme), as having English terms in an otherwise fully translated site appears inconsistent.

Key responses:

  • URL segment limitation: Multiple users confirm that Shopify does not allow changing the fixed URL segments (“products,” “collections,” “pages”). These remain in English across all Shopify stores regardless of language.

  • Partial workaround: The product/page “handle” (the text after the final slash) can be translated using Shopify’s free Translate & Adapt app. For example: /products/test (English) vs. /es/products/prueba (Spanish).

  • SEO concern raised: One participant warns that mixing English and other languages in URLs may negatively impact search engine rankings.

Status: The discussion remains open with no full solution; the core URL segments cannot be changed, and the suggested workaround is considered inadequate by some participants.

Hi there!

Is it possible to replace/translate the Pages/Collections/Products in the URL to another language?

It looks strange to have the all store in one language and then some words in English.

Theme: Refresh

Thanks!

Hi,

It’s not possible to change the URL’s in the way that you want.

You can only edit the ‘handles’ (the text after the last slash “/”). The “products” and “collections” part of the URL cannot be changed (works the same for all Shopify stores).

Hi @kingdom2 , thanks for your question.

I would like to clarify that while it is not possible to translate the segments such as “Products,” “Collections,” “Pages,” or “Blogs” in the URL, Shopify does allow for translating the slug or handle part of the URL.

For example, in a store with English as the default language and Spanish as an additional language, you could have a product URL that changes as follows:

To achieve this, you can use Shopify’s free Translate & Adapt app, which allows you to handle these translations efficiently.

I hope it would be helpful.

Liz.

But google search will be NOT happy about that, and your rank will be lower, becouse url slug will contain English + other Language
