I woke up this morning and got an email claiming to be from Shopify. They said I had some theme compatibility issues and they would shut down my shop in 7 days if I didn’t fix them. I wasn’t well awake yet so I didn’t check the details from the email and replied to their email (I didn’t give any personal information, I just asked them what I had to do to fix this.)
Just now I noticed that the mail had come from a gmail account, not a shopify account. I think it’s a scam email but I just wanted to make sure since I don’t want to lose my store. I’m also a bit stressed now since I responded and then realized it’s probably a scammer.
Don’t worry, your store is safe. This is indeed a scam. Shopify would never send emails from a Gmail account. I’ve received similar emails myself. You did the right thing by not providing any personal information. Just ignore and delete the email. If you have any concerns, contact Shopify support directly through their official channels.
reassure me it’s a scam? the most surprising thing is that the unsubscribe link took me to shopify . Should I conclude that scammers are hiding in the Shopify app stores? Registered as devs??? even the devs are scammers? so you shouldn’t install anything on shoppify? I’m talking about the apps.
These are Nigerian scammers trying to scare you into doing business with you by acting like a website developer. They do that to make you think something is wrong. They have done this numerous times to me. Copy the Gmail address and then send to shopify fraud department. They will take it from there
