I have just receive this email this morning:

Dear Valued Store Owner,

We are following up regarding the DMCA takedown notice issued against your store’s theme. As previously mentioned, using an unlicensed or unauthorized theme is a violation of Shopify’s policies and could result in your store being taken offline if not addressed before February 28, 2025.

To avoid disruptions, please take one of the following actions:

  1. Purchase the Theme – Obtain a valid license from the Shopify Theme Store.
  2. Remove the Theme – Delete the unauthorized theme from your store.
  3. Transfer an Existing License – If you own a license from another store, confirm eligibility for transfer.

If you have already taken action, kindly reply to confirm so we can update our records. If you need assistance, feel free to reach out at owenankita@gmail.com.

We appreciate your urgent attention and look forward to resolving this matter with you.

Based on the email address you received this message from (Shopify.com.un.com@gmail.com), this is likely a scam. Shopify only sends official emails from @shopify.com domains, not from @gmail.com or any other free email service.

That said, Shopify does take action against stores using unlicensed themes, so if you are using an unauthorized or counterfeit theme, it’s best to purchase a valid license from the Shopify Theme Store to avoid any issues.

For security reasons:

  • Do not click on any links in the suspicious email.
  • Do not provide any sensitive information (like store credentials or payment details).
  • If you’re unsure, contact Shopify Support directly through your Shopify Admin or at Shopify Help Center to verify if your store has any real DMCA notices.
