Is this customer claiming to be a developer genuine?

So i just received a Message on my Shopify inbox app by a customer who claimed to be a Shopify developer. He calls himself BENEVOLENT. He says my store needs a push and asked me about my audience…, his email is benevolentshopify@gmail.com, and my gut gives me a bad feeling about that. I was just wondering if you can give me any sign of verification or if the email matches with the ones Shopify developer use, just something that can tell me if he’s a fraud or not?! Thank you!

Greetings, @RR8 .

Thank you for reaching out and bringing this to our attention.

Typically, a Shopify developer will have a Shopify email address that they can use so it’s likely that this individual isn’t a Shopify developer. However, there are many freelance developers outside of the Shopify Community that may be certified for Shopify, so it’s within possibility that they are a developer in their own rights. Many freelance developers are also self-employed so it’s common for them to use Gmail for their email address. On that note, while there isn’t enough information to determine conclusively, there are other venues in which you can hire a developer for your store. If you happen to be looking for a developer for your store, then we’d recommend taking a look at our directory of certified developers on Shopify Experts.

I noticed that you’re a new member of our Shopify Community! I’d love to hear more about your business and share some resources to help you get started. What kinds of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?
