How do I verify if someone is actually Shopify staff? This person claimed to be from the Shopify Sales Department tasked with helping my store improve. Email/ID attached. The reason I ask is because the email is a g mail instead of Shopify domain email. Any help is appreciated. I don’t want to miss a free analysis if it’s actually from Shopify staff, but if it’s a fake staff then no thanks!
They definitely don’t work for Shopify. If a real Shopify employee emailed you (and they definitely wouldn’t do it like this guy did), then they’d be sending the email from an @Shopify_77 .com email address …
Another tell-tale sign that it’s spam is that they didn’t address you by your real name.
Also, as an actual Shopify Partner/Expert myself, I’m pretty sure we don’t have an “official partner ID” that’s merchant-facing. No one has ever asked me for my “partner ID” nor have I ever offered it … and if I did, there’d be no way for you (as a merchant) to know if it’s legit or not.
If you want to know if a Shopify Partner/Expert is legit, then you should ask for their profile page (should look like this: https://www.shopify.com/partners/directory/partner/stephensworld), which will list their official contact details (email and/or phone number, as well as their website URL).
Note: All Shopify Partners/Experts are third-party freelancers/companies. No one on the Partners Directory actually works for Shopify directly.
Thank you so much for clearing this, just as I suspected. I just want 3rd opinion to make sure I didn’t miss out on a new program where Shopify hires 3rd party to provide free support on their behalf.
